Participating in psychotherapy can allow you to strengthen
what is best in yourself, so that you will be more effective in dealing with
the challenges in your life. Therapy can help you build on the capacities that
you have already developed. It can also help you learn how to think about old
problems in new ways and how to act differently when facing them. To the extent that it is necessary, therapy
can allow you to take a broader look at what has gone wrong in your life and
what improvements will be necessary for your circumstances or experiences to
become more satisfying. Beyond looking at yourself clearly and mastering new
skills, therapy will help you develop greater self-control and self-esteem.
Self-exploration and altering prior habits are both more likely to occur in a supportive
atmosphere that encourages trust—which I will work hard to foster.
